The Health & Safety Regulations(1981) states that employers should risk asses their workplaces in order to
“provide or ensure that there are provided, such equipment and facilities are as adequate and appropriate in the circumstances for enabling first-aid to be rendered.”
When it comes to eye irrigation, the HSE’s guidance is to have at least a litre of sterile water available if no mains tap water readily available. We think that it is a good idea to provide eyewash anyway, as injuries can be treated at source, rather than moving the casualty to the tap and the impracticality of washing out eyes under a tap and having clean hands etc.
With eyewash bottles & pods, eye injuries can be irrigated quickly, efficiently & cleanly. We recommend that the pods be an additional item in workplaces.
